You’re not limited to plain white; there are a plethora of color options out there for you to try. Should you opt for light and airy, dark and moody, or something completely unexpected? Beyond color choice, the type of paint is also important. “The best paint for the kitchen is typically one that’s durable, easy to clean, and can handle the humidity and occasional splashes that come with cooking,” says paint expert Matt Boden. Muddy Green

If there’s one color we’re seeing pop up absolutely everywhere, including the kitchen, it’s green! To avoid a too-bright green that looks more like it belongs in a kid’s room, turn to muddy, muted greens that have plenty of gray undertones. These greens are classic, sophisticated and look stunning in a kitchen, as shown here in this calm kitchen by @fairhaven.home.

FAQs

What are the best paint types for kitchens?

“I recommend a high-quality acrylic latex paint specifically designed for kitchens and bathrooms. Paints like Benjamin Moore’s Aura or Sherwin-Williams’ Emerald line are often top choices because they offer great coverage and long-term durability,” says Boden.

Does the type of finish matter?

“Yes, the paint finish absolutely matters in a kitchen. Flat or matte finishes might look modern and soft, but they’re not the most practical for a space where walls are likely to get messy,” says Boden. “A satin, semi-gloss, or even high-gloss finish is a better option because it’s much easier to wipe clean without damaging the surface. Semi-gloss in particular is a popular choice because it’s a nice balance.”

Are trendy colors or timeless colors better?

“The choice between trendy and timeless really depends on your personal style and how often you’re willing to update,” says Boden. “Trendy colors like deep greens, navy blues, or even muted red’s can definitely make a bold, beautiful statement in the kitchen. However, if you’re aiming for longevity or thinking about resale value, sticking with classic shades like soft whites, grays, or warm neutrals might be a safer bet.”
